WSET ABC 13 in beautiful Lynchburg, Virginia is seeking an energetic and dynamic meteorologist for our morning and noon newscasts. The person we are seeking to join our on-air team will showcase the next weathermaker and breaking weather during our two hour morning newscast, Good Morning Virginia, and our half-hour noon newscast. You must also maintain a robust presence on ABC 13's social media pages. THIS POSITION OPENS IN SEPTEMBER
The morning meteorologist is responsible for weather content on-air and on our digital platforms. A competitive passion to win breaking weather and an openness to innovation is mandatory. Our winning candidate will be someone who embraces social media and knows how to consistently engage with the audience. THIS POSITION OPENS IN SEPTEMBER.

You're also not far from several big cities and entertainment: Richmond (2 hours), Raleigh (2.5 hours), Washington DC (3.5 hours), Charlotte (3.5 hours) and Virginia Beach (4 hours). The main day to day responsibilities of the role will include…
- Forecasting, producing and presenting clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connects with viewers
- Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
- Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories for our website
- Make public appearances on behalf of the station
- Work with news managers and producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations
- Occasional fill-in for weekend meteorologist
What skills do you need to be successful in our role?
- In-depth knowledge of forecasting
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Minimum three years’ experience in broadcast weather presentation
- Already having your meteorological seal doesn't hurt.
- Prior experience with Max Reality (The Weather Company) is a plus.
