This producer will ensure that the information we share on social media and through email newsletters showcases our best journalism and respected brand. Our strong digital team is leading the transition from broadcast-focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms, and this producer will help us increase the audience on our website and social media channels. At 8News, the digital distribution producer will:
- Create, post and coordinate social content with graphics, wit and timeliness
- Manage social media accounts with an understanding of each unique audience, its tone and our brand needs on each platform.
- Help develop and implement social media strategies for digital products
- Increase social media followers on all platforms
- Help develop new newsletters that fit our local needs
- Increase the number of newsletter subscribers
- Write clever headlines and social posts that compel readers to click
You’ll be expected to:
- Utilize third-party tools to manage social posts across multiple accounts
- Observe SEO trends and share results with the news team
- Send and analyze mobile app alerts and desktop notifications so that they are created for maximum reach
- Share best practices with Nexstar peers and learn from other newsrooms’ success
- Report regularly on social media, newsletter and app performance
- Understand digital audience behavior trends and have the technical ability to affect them
- Increase referral traffic to our digital products from external domains
- And of course, perform other duties as assigned
Skill/Experience Requirements:
- Have an undergraduate degree in mass communications or a related field
- Have two years of experience as a social media producer. Experience writing for a daily newspaper and/or news website is also a plus
- Embrace multi-tasking
- Be an organized, technical problem solver
- Have the ability to monitor and analyze metrics to change strategy as needed
- Have experience publishing content online, especially with WordPress and social management tools.
- Understand, and use AP style
- Same for SEO – understand it and use it
- Be familiar with Adobe Spark, photo editing software, basic video editing software and basic HTML
- Be comfortable working with different technology – it’s always changing
- Participate and cooperate
