WHSV-TV, the dominant news station in the Shenandoah Valley, is looking for a content-driven newscast producer to join our award-winning team. This position calls for a motivated and innovative candidate who plans and manages our Monday-Friday 5:00 p.m. newscast. WHSV has just been named "Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias" by the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters. We are located in Harrisonburg, Virginia situated in the Shenandoah Valley. Our team produces nearly 30 hours of local news each week. We strive to bring our viewers the best content on all platforms. Harrisonburg is a thriving community located two hours from Washington, D.C. and Richmond. We have a proven track record of growing journalists to larger Gray markets.
General Responsibilities:
- Produce WHSV News at 5:00, Monday-Friday while overseeing all details of the broadcast.
- Demonstrate solid news judgment while maintaining strong journalistic integrity.
- Write and edit stories using available video, interviews, graphics and other resources to convey what is happening in an engaging, understanding way.
- Contribute story ideas for the newscast and work closely with MMJs to execute those ideas.
- Stack the rundown and manage the on-air broadcast from the control room.
- Respond aggressively and responsibly to breaking news and getting information online and on-the-air.
- We're proud of the culture we've worked hard to create in our newsroom through the years. You must be someone who works cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to cover other shifts and breaking news as needed.
Qualifications:
- Up to one year of producing experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- An internship in a newsroom preferred.
