Broadcast Engineer

WFXR WWCW, the local FOX and CW affiliates in Roanoke, Virginia has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Engineer. This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, updating and repairing hardware and systems used for broadcasting and business operations.
- Works with the Engineering team to maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station
- Works with the Engineering team to install and test new systems and technical infrastructure for the station
- Minimizes service interruptions at times of equipment and/or system failure by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions
- Sets up and operates equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts
- Works with the Engineering team to Install and maintain the IT network, switches, data backups, workstations and printers
- Interprets and implements instructions and requests from other station personnel
- Communicates with members of the engineering team and other teams to effectively resolve equipment and system issues
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
- Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, Information Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- Strong Troubleshooting skills for information technology systems and broadcast systems
- Fluency in English
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Experience with digital electronics and IT systems
- Strong Windows OS/MS Office and Active Directory experience
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
- Experience with production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems preferred
- Experience with broadcast-related equipment such as transmitters and microwave signals a plus
- Experience evaluating, selecting, installing, servicing and maintaining broadcasting industry equipment and information technology systems
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, system schematics and flow charts
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
