WMRA Public Radio at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Part-Time Announcer. WMRA is Harrisonburg’s local NPR affiliate, with a broadcast range spanning the Shenandoah Valley, and Central Virginia. WMRA and sister station WEMC are supported by the local community and are recognized for quality programming. WMRA is licensed to James Madison University, and all staff are employees of the university. More information about the station is available at wmra.org.
Duties and Responsibilities
Hosts a regular Saturday shift that can be pre-recorded. Serves as the primary, live backup host for Morning Edition and All Things Considered on weekdays. Operates broadcast equipment during on-air shifts, gathers news and re-writes news stories for local newscasts. Other duties as assigned. Expected regular schedule is 5 hours per week, with up to 25 hours per week when hosting live shifts.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants should be able to speak clearly and understand basic word processing and general computer operations. Radio announcing experience, familiarity with NPR, and audio editing experience preferred. Must have flexibility to fill in for shifts when they become available, which includes early mornings (4am-9am) when hosting Morning Edition.
