Weekend Anchor/Reporter
WHSV has an exciting opening on our news team as weekend anchor/producer and MMJ three days during the week. This is a wonderful job for anyone wanting to "do it all" and learn and grow as a broadcaster while being part of a newsroom filled with strong journalists.
WHSV has just been named "Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias" by the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters. We are located in Harrisonburg, Virginia situated in the Shenandoah Valley. Our team produces nearly 30 hours of local news each week. We strive to bring our viewers the best content on all platforms. Harrisonburg is a thriving community located two hours from Washington, D.C. and Richmond. We are the areas ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Produce and anchor our 6:00p.m. and 11:00p.m. newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays. Report three days a week. Fill-in on the week day anchor desk as needed. As weekend anchor, we are looking for someone who will keep our website and social media fresh, coordinate content with our weekend meteorologist, sports anchor and reporter. When reporting during the week for our 5:00p.m. and 6:00p.m. newscasts, you will be responsible for enterprising your own stories, shooting, writing, editing, fronting your content, running your own live shots (as needed), and posting your stories to our website. Through it all, always demonstrate sound news judgment and fair and balanced reporting.
General Responsibilities
- A Broadcast Communications/Journalism degree
- Strong editing skills and a concise, journalistic writing style as well as the ability to respond swiftly to breaking news and unfolding events are a must
- Must be a self-motivator, able to meet tight deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Demonstrates good news judgment and decision making
- Maintain a positive attitude and work environment
- Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen and motor vehicle background check
