Deadline to Implement Software Updates to EAS Equipment.
In September 2022, the FCC announced changes to its EAS rules requiring broadcasters to prioritize CAP-formatted alerts and updating language for some alert codes—December 12, 2023, is the deadline to comply with these changes. Broadcasters should communicate with their EAS equipment providers, who have stated that they will be introducing software and firmware updates necessary to bring existing EAS hardware into compliance, and ensure that EAS equipment has been properly updated to comply with the revised rules.
